Hello! I'm the doll who used to be "Lynda." Such an artificial name — like the doll I used to be — smooth, plastic and hard. The original name Linda means beautiful. Isn't that ironic?

The first thing my adoptive mother, Caroline, did was liberate me from my ugly, gold nylon hair. She really enjoyed cutting it off. The pineapple leaf headdress was a spontaneous idea. I had to have my head cut open to insert the tuft, but I didn't complain being so happy to have something inside my head.

Then my pink, shiny shell was covered with warm, brown yarn. Caroline wound it around me until it was a cocoon. It looks like I'm wearing a nubbly, Buffalo jumpsuit. (She got a little carried away by adding some turquoise body paint but she had just seen Apocalypto.)

I can't believe how much I like my new arty-farty costume. It's sure different from that skimpy knit dress I wore — sans knickers, I might add. Who on earth dressed me like that? Did they know I was bound for Calgary, Canada?

More than anything I love my cosy felt boots. They cover up feet that I can't even stand on. But, I'm okay now. My new name is Quetzal and I can fly!
